2021 Suzuki GSX-R1000R 100th Anniversary First Look
Suzuki marks its centennial with a special-edition GSX-R1000R.
It’s a fitting year for Suzuki to debut an anniversary GSX-R1000R. This year marks the company’s 100th year in business as well as its 60th year in racing. This year Suzuki also brought home the MotoGP championship title and earned the top spot in the Endurance World Championship. The 2021 GSX-R1000R Anniversary Edition celebrates all of these achievements and more, with a special Team Suzuki Ecstar livery. It will be priced at $17,999, a $504 premium over the base-model GSX-R1000R.
The platform remains unchanged from 2020 otherwise, with its potent 999cc inline-four, premium Showa suspension, and Brembo braking hardware holding steady for the new model year. It features a full suite of electronics which aim to provide riders maximum performance on the track.
The last major overhaul of the GSX-1000R came in 2017, where the machine received more horsepower, variable valve timing, MotoGP-derived ride-by-wire, F1-style finger followers, a revised intake and exhaust system, and more efficient cooling. It also received a revised, lighter-weight chassis and higher-spec suspension. All together it was a big step forward for the machine.
And if the superbike isn’t your style, Suzuki is also releasing 100th anniversary livery for its GSX-R750 and GSX-R600.
It’s been 35 years since the original GSX-R750 debuted and 2021 will mark the 20th anniversary of the GSX-R1000. There will undoubtedly be a special edition to mark the occasion (Suzuki isn’t shy about celebrating anniversaries). In that time the GSX-R1000 has become a reliable, user-friendly, and potent platform on par with some of the best in the business. And the 10000R will undoubtedly improve in the coming years as a result of the brand’s work in MotoGP.
