Just like classic cars, rare motorcycles can fetch ridiculous prices at auctions. Here are 10 rarest bikes whose prices will make your head spin.
Did you know that there are around 600 million motorcycles in the world? Funny enough, over a third of them are in India. While those are the mainstream motorcycles, ranging from scooters to superbikes and from classic motorcycles to cruisers; the question is, which are the rarest? Which motorcycle out there has been built in the lowest numbers?
We've compiled a list to answer that question, but the question that follows is how much they're worth. Does the value go hand-in-hand with the rarity of the motorcycle? Read on to find out.

10 Neander Turbo Diesel - Less Than 60 Ever Made - Valued Between $120,000 And $140,000
There is a lot of confusion about this unusual motorcycle. It seems not even the company (which no longer makes motorcycles anymore but outboard engines) isn’t sure whether they made 60 or 50 or even less. The Neander 1400 Turbo Diesel wasn’t the only diesel motorcycle in the world either, but it was certainly unique, and it caught the attention of the public. Initially planned to sell for $85,000 it ended up being sold in Europe for $140,000. Not a single one is listed for sale anywhere in the world at the moment, which makes it even more unique.
9 Crocker Big Tank - Less Than 100 Ever Made - Valued Between $500,000 and $700,000
This classic motorcycle was manufactured by Crocker Motorcycle Company in L.A. between 1936 and 1942. Less than 100 units were ever made and at the time it was considered to be very powerful thanks to its 60 horsepower 61 cu in Hemi engine. The top speed was a shocking 100 mph and so was the highest price ever paid for it – $704,000 at the 2019 Mecum Auction in Las Vegas.
8 Brough Superior SS100 - Around 3,000 Made - Valued Between $300,000 and $600,000
This British-made motorcycle left the factory between 1924 and 1940 and although there were nearly 3,000 units made of the Brough Superior SS100, not many of them survived to this day. Depending on the year of manufacturing, the motorcycle came with different engines. The 1929 Brough SS100 that sold for $600,000 at Bonhams Auction in Las Vegas in 2011 was equipped with the V-twin engine, which gave this motorcycle a claimed top speed of 130 mph.
7 Vincent Black Shadow - Around 1,700 Made - Valued Between $100,000 And $900,000
Another British-made motorcycle on our list, this one was produced by Vincent HRD between 1948 and 1955, with around 1,700 units ever made. Many different versions of this bike were produced, but the unrestored original-condition Black Lightning version sold at Bonhams Auction in Las Vegas in 2018 for a whopping $900,000.
6 Munch Mammut 2000 - Only 15 Ever Made - Valued Between $100,000 And $150,000
This is one of the rarest motorcycles on this list. It was made in Germany between 1999 and 2001 with only 15 units ever leaving the factory out of a planned 250. The retail price was set at $82,000, but it far exceeded the manufacturing costs. This turbocharged beast had 260 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque, and it remains one of the most powerful motorcycles ever made.
5 Honda RC166 - Only 45 Ever Made - Valued Between $1 Million and $1.5 Million
This racing legend from 1966 dominated the 250cc class thanks to its screaming 24-valve six-cylinder engine that revved up all the way to 18,000 rpm. A 250cc six-cylinder – yes, that is correct. Since it was a racing bike, there is no exact figure of how many were made, nor are there records of any public sales. There is a handful of them left in the world, and they change hands very privately. If you ever manage to find one for sale, you should expect to pay as much as $1.5 million for an example in good shape. Even replicas of the RC166 go for around $14,000 these days.
4 Confederate X123 Hellcat - Only 65 Ever Made - Valued Between $50,000 and $65,000
This absolute brute can be considered a bargain in this list. With only 65 ever made between 2012 and 2017, this motorcycle originally retailed for $45,000 to $50,000 depending on the model. One Hellcat with just 600 miles on the clock was sold in 2012 for only $55,000 at Mecum Auction in 2016. In 2020 at BaT Auctions another example, this time with 522 miles, went for $65,000. There was another one listed by Confederate for $65,000 as well.
3 Norton Manx - Around 1,100 Made - Valued Between $25,000 And $150,000
Yet another British-made motorcycle, this one is from a slightly later era. It was made between 1946 and 1962 and only about 1,100 units were ever produced. The value of this motorcycle varies considerably depending on age, model, condition and how many units of the actual model are left in the world. One 1954 Norton Manx 500 was sold for $48,000 in Australia in 2021, there is one listed at Christie's Auctions with a price estimate of $25,000 to $35,000 but the rarest of models can see prices climbing to as much as $150,000.
2 Hesketh V1000 - Less Than 150 Ever Made - Valued Between $40,000 And $80,000
This unique motorcycle was made between 1982 and 1984, and despite its rather large engine, it only delivered 86 hp. The top speed was nothing to shout about either – with a smidgen over 114 mph, this wasn’t the fastest motorcycle ever. Its claim to fame is its low production numbers – only 136 were ever made of the main model, with another 24 of the final production run called Hesketh 24. There is only one currently for sale listed by Iconic Motorbike Auctions for $21,400, which is a steal.
