2018 Kenda AMA National Hare & Hound Ridgecrest Results
A mix-up with course markings at the end of the race had Jacob Argubright crossing the finish line first, but after officials quickly reviewed the situation, Shirey was awarded the win. Nick Burson (Yamaha) ended up second ahead of Joseph Wasson (Beta) and Argubright (Yamaha), who was awarded fourth.
“I got passed by two guys that I never saw,” Shirey (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing Off-Road Team) said of the confusion at the end.
He went on to say: “I felt I rode pretty good. The first loop I rode a little tight; I had to adapt and get used to [hare and hounds] again then the second loop. I just hammered down.”
While Shirey was celebrating his first ever win, Kendall Norman (Pro Circuit/Renthal/Alpinestars CRF450X) was celebrating his second-career AMA Hare & Hound Championship. Norman (Pro Circuit/Renthal/Alpinestars Honda CRF450X) sealed the deal with a conservative fifth-overall placing.
A day after clinching the Women’s-class title in WORCS, Brandy Richards made it a doubly successful weekend by rolling to her fifth consecutive H&H series victory, enabling her to clinch the AMA Championship, as well. Britney Gallegos, the points leader by a slim margin going in, had to sit out with injury and dropped to third in the championship behind Richards and Rachel Stout, who took second on the day as well.
