2019 Suzuki GSX-R1000 First Look—Amid the hysteria of the new Suzuki Katana at Intermot in Germany, it was almost easy to forget there were a few updates being thrown the way of Suzuki’s “King of Superbikes” in the GSX-R1000.

Still available in GSX-R1000 and the higher-spec GSX-R1000R, 2019 will mark the third year for the model that first began in 2000 (1000cc), with the OG GSX-R being the 750cc version of 1985. For 2019, the base model will get the up and down quickshifter that was a drawcard for the 1000R as a standard feature (you could always get this as an accessory on the base model), and Suzuki has decided to ditch the rubber brake lines for proper race-spec steel braided units to help increase track performance.
On the chassis front, the swingarm pivot is now adjustable, giving riders a wider range of adjustment when trying to dial in a good set up at the track.
The exhaust muffler, widely regarded as one of the ugliest on any current superbike, retains its ugliness but gets painted black to blend in a little more to the design and not be so, err, ugly.
At Intermot, Suzuki was proud to say both GSX-Rs will run with “racing tires”, which we later found out meant Bridgestone’s excellent RS11s, which is a brilliant tire to come as standard fitment.
Pricing is still TBA with although dealers should start seeing units by February 2019.
