2022 Honda Gold Wing First Look
Four trim levels are available, but only one with manual transmission.
In the pantheon of luxury long-haulers, Honda’s flagship Gold Wing tourer consistently rises to the top, so it was kind of surprising to see the firm announce its return to the 2022 lineup in an offhand way. In any case, the Gold Wing tourer is indeed back in Honda’s touring line for 2022, this time in four trim levels (the base non-DCT Gold Wing trim is dropped) but mechanically unchanged from last year. That means it carries over the comfort and ergonomic improvements we saw in 2021, but only adds new color options for the new year.
With the standard, manual transmission Gold Wing model being dropped for 2022, the entry point to the Wing series is now the Gold Wing Automatic DCT. Like all the other Wings, it gets a compact twin-spar aluminum frame, throttle-by-wire, an electric windscreen, Apple CarPlay and navigation, and a saddlebag-mounted USB charger, all underpinned by that silky-smooth liquid-cooled 1,833cc six-cylinder engine. As the name suggests, this model comes with the seven-speed Automatic DCT transmission, and is available in one color only for 2022, this Matte Nightshade Blue. MSRP is $25,300.
Take the base Automatic DCT model, add a 61-liter travel trunk, enhanced passenger accommodations, and a taller touring shield along with standard fog lights (on all Tour models)—but then give it just the manual six-speed transmission, and you have the Gold Wing Tour. It’s available in Metallic Black or Ultra Blue Metallic, for $28,500.
ADVERTISEMENTOf course, you can have this very bike with DCT, but Honda has made that option a new trim level, which you can read about next.
The 2022 Gold Wing Tour Automatic DCT is the same bike as above, but with the seven-speed DCT transmission swapped in. The horizontally opposed six-cylinder mill, the 7-inch full-color TFT screen, four ride modes, heated seats, the top trunk, and more—it’s all here, and in the same color options for 2022 (Metallic Black or Ultra Blue Metallic).
The DCT model costs $1,000 more, for a total of $29,500 ($200 more than last year).
At the top of Honda’s touring range sits the 2022 Gold Wing Tour Airbag Automatic DCT model which has all the standard features of the above models but also adds an airbag system, for an unusually high level of rider safety. This model is available only in Ultra Blue Metallic, and like all the other models discussed here, is in showrooms now.
